Regina Food Bank
Working with John Bailey, CEO of the Regina Food Bank, students in my People-Centred Design course in the Winter 2022 term explored design solutions for an online/mobile food bank ordering, pickup, and delivery system. John and the RFB are currently working on operationalizing the next phase of this project. If you are curious, check out the student team design ideas (low and high fidelity prototypes from team ‘Grapes’ pictured below
Working with the International Association of Business Communicators, Regina branch students in my Winter 2021 People-Centred Design course designed and developed a new website experience for the local non-profit. Securing funding from the IABC, Regina branch, a student from the class was hired to operationalize the website.
Fire Safety & Education
Working with the Regina Fire Department students in my Winter 2020 People-Centred Design course designed and developed a mobile application that aims to teach children and parents about fire safety in the home. App experiences included a 911 simulator and home address learning module for children.
Securing funding from the University of Regina Faculty of Arts (Community Research Unit) the Regina Fire Department and I were able to hire a student from my Winter 2020 course to iterate design and development on the app as well as work with the City of Regina’s Information Technology Support team to operationalize the project.
I am currently the lead coordinator of Saskatchewan’s Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Technology Group (RCE-SK: https://www.saskrce.ca). RCEs are an initiative of the UN University and aim to promote ESD across the globe.
Working with RCE-SK’s Regional Facilitation Group (RFG), students in my Spring 2020 course on Usability Engineering & Research course explored iterating RCE-SK’s website design. Securing funding from the University of Regina Faculty of Engineering we were able to hire a software systems engineering student to iterate the design and development of the RCE-SK website
Continuing our collaboration with RCE-SK’s RFG students in my Winter 2021 course Designing Apps for Collaboration & Learning (Engineering Community-Centred Software) will explore engineering software in support of the UN Sustainable Goals. Members of RCE-SK’s RFG will act as mentors to student works.
University of Regina Faculty of Engineering
In my classes, my students have explored a number of projects in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering. Projects have included exploration of the re-design and development of the Faculty’s intranet and internet sites (Fall 2018, Winter 2019). As well, in Fall 2019 students in my course on Engineering Community-Centred Software worked with key Faculty administration on the design and development of a software tool to support Engineering educators in collecting course data to help support Engineering accreditation (Outcomes-Based Assessment system).
In my Spring 2018 graduate course and Fall 2018 undergraduate course on (Researching) & Engineering Community-Centred Software courses my students collaborated with eHealth Saskatchewan on the design and development of an internal idea sharing software (for internal and external continuous improvement ideas).
